Jan Munro, Ed.D, LPC, NCC, NBCCH
After spending over a decade as a patient research coordinator and health educator at
Washington University School of Medicine, Dr. Munro opened a private practice at Creve Coeur
Counseling Associates. She balances her practice with teaching full-time in the Division of Counseling
and Family Therapy at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
In addition to general counseling for depression, anxiety, and various mental health
concerns, Dr. Munro’s interests include smoking cessation, weight management, and chronic
disease management. She employs talk therapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy as well as
clinical hypnotherapy, which she finds to be very rewarding, both for her and her clients.
For her doctoral work at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, she chose a hypnotherapeutic
intervention for clients of the Washington University Weight Management Program as the research
topic for her dissertation. This study increased her confidence in clinical hypnotherapy as
a means to help individuals make significant changes in their lives. She continues to use
hypnotherapeutic techniques as Counselor-on-Call for students with test anxiety at Barnes-Jewish
Hospital college of Nursing and Allied Health.
